The Centre for Lung Health (CLH) at Vancouver General Hospital Research Institute, a multidisciplinary consortium of world leaders in respiratory clinical care and research which includes the Legacy for Airway Health (LAH) and other programs, is advancing its activities in a way that requires support currently not available. A major related activity is launching the BC Respiratory Health Network with the goal of synergizing research and care for respiratory health across BC. The Network will focus on research targeting the prevention, treatment, and care of respiratory health conditions through cross-sector and inter-disciplinary investigative collaborations that are innovative and grounded in meaningful engagement of patients, communities at risk, and knowledge users using evidence-based strategies.
The network will be composed of multidisciplinary researchers, clinicians, patients, and communities at risk, with linkages to knowledge users that include government, health authorities, not-for-profit organizations and industry to synergize translational research and care. The Network aims to: strengthen lung health research and enhance its relevance; catalyze rigorous evaluation of new knowledge and its implementation; and support mentorship, training, peer learning, and capacity building. The Network will create an enabling ecosystem by coordinating activities, developing supportive infrastructure, facilitating collaborations, and reducing duplication of efforts. Once established, the Network members will be able to create and share knowledge that is novel, engaged, integrative and oriented for action. The network will leverage existing expertise in stakeholder engagement and integrated knowledge translation within the Legacy for Airway Health (LAH, https://www.legacyairwayhealth.ca/), a program within CLH that is focussed on the prevention and care of airway diseases.
Reporting to the Director of the CLH, the Manager, Centre for Lung Health will lead the advancement of CLH and the development of the network and its day-to-day operations. The individual will nurture an environment of trust, transparency and collaboration within the network through effective communications and establishing activities that foster collaborations. The individual is expected to work closely with staff of CLH and its component units to advance the goals of the Network.
As a Manager, Centre for Lung Health with Vancouver Coastal Health you will:
- Collaborates with leadership of CLH and other units within the network to establish priorities and strategies to enable fulfillment of Network goals and objectives;
- Organizes and facilitates events for the broader network and supports the establishment of emerging communities of practices;
- Provides support to researchers within CLH and across the network to connect and coordinate with patients, knowledge users and, as appropriate, with other researchers for developing meaningful partnerships for grant applications;
- Liaises with the LAH Community Stakeholders Committee and other patient partners to ensure meaningful and ongoing patient/community engagement in LAH and CLH efforts.
- Liaises with appropriate partners to provide patient/community-oriented research training to LAH and CLH researchers, members of the Community Stakeholders Committee and other patient partners.
- Prepares and manages regular communications (e.g. newsletters, social media, presentations) for CLH, LAH and the Network and its associated units, as appropriate;
- Acts as the primary contact for all members and queries related to Network.
- Oversees the implementation of a robust Communications Plan for the Network and associated units, integrating websites and social media platforms to promote effective communication amongst, and between, all internal and external audiences, stakeholders, partners and funders.
- Identifies, develops, nurtures and maintains relationships with key stakeholders;
- Implements and manages network collaborative platforms (e.g. Slack, Sharepoint,etc);
- Develops and manages training and Network seed grant programs
- Develops and maintains an inventory of network members using appropriate technical tools (e.g. CRM)
- Coordinates, facilitates and provides training courses to network members to build research capacity in areas of need (e.g. in patient oriented research, KT, implementation science etc.);
- Identifies funding opportunities and develops grant applications for support of network activities;
- Conducts periodic network evaluations using network science principles;
- Keeps abreast of, and seeks opportunities to contribute to, emerging relevant network and integrated knowledge translation science and practices;
- Cultivates a culture of collaboration and cooperation within the network
- Carries out responsibilities in accordance with health and safety requirements. Immediately reports unsafe situations by notifying supervisor or other appropriate personnel.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education & Experience
- Master’s Degree in a health sciences or related discipline supplemented with a minimum of five (5) years’ recent, related experience working in the health care system (health care institution, professional associations, health authorities and/or government) on projects related to evidence-informed practice and/or policy change, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Knowledge & Abilities
- Demonstrated understanding of implementation science, knowledge translation theory and practice including critical appraisal, knowledge and skills related to the process of Evidence-Informed Decision Making.
- Demonstrated ability to develop, maintain and foster relationships with researchers, decision makers, and patient groups.
- Demonstrated experience in organizing stakeholder consultations.
- Demonstrated excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Demonstrated excellent oral and written communication skills.

As per the current Public Health Orders (Long Term Care/Seniors Assisted Living Provincial Health Officer Order and the Health Sector Order), as of October 26, 2021, all employees working for Vancouver Coastal Health must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19.
