Dear Community,
We are delighted to tell you that the KTECOP has received funding from CIHR to support our meetings and workshops in 2010/2011. In late November 2009, we submitted a grant application entitled “Knowledge Translation Community of Practice Linkages and Meetings” to the CIHR Meetings, Planning and Dissemination Grant: Knowledge Translation Program. Our application was approved for $7,950. Out of 37 applications submitted, ours was ranked tenth!
Given that we had a very short deadline to meet, the KTECOP organizing committee took the lead and very quickly drafted and submitted a proposal request. We regret that the timelines simply did not allow for consultation with the membership. That is why we are writing to you today, because we now have a chance to ask you for your input and to fine tune the program to best meet the needs of our members.
Our stated purpose in the proposal was to create a network of interested KTE practitioners and researchers that incorporates the principles of community of practice theory. We listed the following purposes:
- Share KTE practices and experience
- Build peer relationships for information exchange and support
- Build KTE capacity, including understanding of best practices and new evidence, for practitioners and researchers
- Advance knowledge of KTE effectiveness
- KTE events, job opportunities and other related KTE activities
We proposed a series of seven meetings to take place in 2010/2011 and identified topics, presenters and persons responsible for their organization. Included in this were sessions with Dr. Carole Estabrooks, University of Alberta, on research in knowledge translation; Dwayne van Eerd, Institute for Work and Health, on the results of a systematic review examining the quality and types of performance measures used to assess KT implementation, effectiveness and impact; and Jacqueline Tetroe, CIHR, on when to utilize integrated KT or end-of grant KT. There were four other sessions relating to knowledge brokering, KT certification, KT 2.0 and social media, and the annual Winter Solstice meeting. The first three of these are being confirmed with the presenters, the others are open to your input.
Please give us your ideas and we will do our best to craft a program that will both meet the objectives we have set for ourselves, and the needs of our growing and diverse membership. We have created a brief online survey:

In advance, thank you for your interest and feedback. If you can respond by Monday, February 22, at 5 pm, that would be most helpful. We will share the results of the survey with you and once again thank you for getting back to us.
Best regards,
Desre Kramer and the organizing committee
