PROGRAM OFFICER, KNOWLEDGE TRANSLATION – Ottawa, Canada
Centre for Excellence for Strengthening Civil Registration and Vital Statistics Systems
Term Position until September 2020
The Governance for Equity in Health Systems (GEHS) Program supports research in low- and middle-income countries to contribute to saving lives of women and children. It strives to develop solutions that will promote the quality and accountability of health services for the most vulnerable. The GEHS Program anticipates implementing a CA$16 million, five year partnership initiative entitled Centre of Excellence for Strengthening Civil Registration and Vital Statistics Systems (CoE-CRVS), in support of the Global Financing Facility’s (GFF’s) overall goal of improving the health and quality of life of women, adolescents and children. The CoE-CRVS aims to promote and improve effective, universal, and integrated CRVS in low- and middle-income countries by providing timely access to evidence, resources, and expertise. This initiative will be supported by the Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development and IDRC.
As the Knowledge Translation Program Officer, you will be responsible for promoting the work of the Centre of Excellence for Strengthening Civil Registration and Vital Statistics Systems by developing and implementing its communication strategy and its inter-linkages with the GEHS Program and the GFF. You will ensure relevant knowledge products on CRVS systems are developed, easily accessible and widely shared in appropriate formats. You will also manage the Centre of Excellence’s web presence and community of practice on CRVS. As well, you will administer and coordinate the communication activities for the Initiative, in close collaboration with relevant team members, and ensure high-quality reporting within IDRC and for the other stakeholders within and beyond the Global Financing Facility.
Overview of Qualifications
- Master’s degree in a relevant health or social science discipline such as public health, international development, or health policy and management; or in communications with a demonstrated understanding of health in a developing country context.
- Minimum of three years of relevant knowledge translation, communications and research experience, including: analyzing, interpreting and synthesizing quantitative/qualitative research data; developing and implementing communications strategies to demonstrate research relevance and to translate this knowledge for policy and practice; writing reports, knowledge/advocacy products, and briefing notes; coordinating projects, conferences and meetings; experience using data analysis software and managing a database and website is an asset; building and maintaining partnerships is an asset; and experience working in development and/or research-based institutions and in developing regions, in particular Africa, is an asset.
- English and French language skills at an intermediate level.
- Demonstrated knowledge on issues and current debates relevant to information systems, statistics, maternal and child health, and health systems research.
