PROGRAM OFFICER, KNOWLEDGE TRANSLATION – Ottawa, Canada
Innovating for Maternal and Child Health in Africa
Term Position until March 2020
The Governance for Equity in Health Systems (GEHS) Program supports research in developing regions to improve health outcomes, with a focus on access to quality services for mothers and children. The program implements a $36 million multi-donor initiative, Innovating for Maternal and Child Health in Africa (IMCHA). The initiative emphasises an implementation research approach to improve maternal, newborn and child health, with strong research to policy linkages. IMCHA is supported by the Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development, the Canadian Institutes of Health Research, and IDRC.
As the Program Officer Knowledge Translation, under the guidance of the Senior Program Specialist, you will contribute to the articulation and profiling of the results of the Innovating for Maternal and Child Health in Africa initiative. You will support the development of compelling communications materials appropriate for a variety of external audiences, situating the initiative within the GEHS research uptake strategy in order to leverage a wider portfolio of research results. You will develop and execute uptake strategies to show the relevance of research findings for key Canadian and international audiences, with emphasis on how to translate knowledge to practice for policy makers and practitioners. You will also administer and coordinate the day-to-day program operations, including high-quality reporting within IDRC and for partner agencies.
Overview of Qualifications
- Master’s degree in a relevant health or social science discipline such as public health, international development/affairs, epidemiology, health economics, or political science; or in communications with a demonstrated understanding of health in a developing country context.
- A minimum of three years of relevant knowledge translation, communications and research experience, including: developing and implementing communications strategies to demonstrate research relevance and to translate this knowledge for policy and practice; analyzing, interpreting and synthesizing quantitative/qualitative research data; writing reports and briefing notes; and coordinating projects, conferences and meetings.
- English and French language communication skills at an intermediate level.
- Sound understanding of strategies for effectively communicating research results and linking research to research users
