Description:
The CIHR Social Research Centre in HIV Prevention (SRC) is composed of a strong, strategically balanced team of Canadian leaders in HIV research, community-based programming, policy and related public health practice. The Centre is housed at the Dalla Lana School of Public Health, University of Toronto. The Centre’s mission is to enhance the understanding and effectiveness of HIV prevention through research, capacity building, and knowledge transfer and exchange (KTE). Under the general supervision of the Director, the Centre Coordinator provides important leadership to a multi-regional and multi-disciplinary network of researchers. The position works with diverse stakeholders (including public health practitioners, policy makers, and community members) to develop novel approaches to HIV prevention and intervention research, while supporting promising trainees/students and attracting new researchers to the field.
The incumbent is responsible for the operational management of the Centre’s office and administrative systems; hiring, managing and coordinating the activities of staff, trainees, and consultants, overseeing the Centre’s budget, organizing meetings, annual retreats, learning institutes, workshops, and other events; and overseeing and engaging in data collection and analysis activities to assess the progress and the evaluation of the Centre, its activities, and the state of HIV prevention research. The incumbent will liaise and provide consults, advice, and support and maintain communication links with the Director, KTE Support Officer,
principal applicants, co-applicants, collaborators and key community stakeholders and other Centre staff. The incumbent will be responsible for coordinating and facilitating the work of various standing committees and working groups. The successful applicant will coordinate and support the writing and preparation of Centre reports, briefs, research protocols and funding applications; perform literature searches and ensure that the annual work plan is successfully implemented.
Qualifications:
(Minimum)
Education: Master’s degree in public health or related fields, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
Experience: Minimum four (4) years relevant experience and/or experience in administration of a health-related organization. Experience implementing and coordinating research projects; experience with work plans, project funding, working groups and committees. Previous experience in research and data gathering. Experience with research evaluation an asset. Experience in writing and preparation of reports, briefs, grant applications and other documents for consideration by various internal and external bodies.
Other: Strong organizational and budget management skills; strong computer skills (MS Access, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe Acrobat). Aptitude to learn new e-communication technology; excellent analytical skills; excellent verbal and writing skills; ability to work independently and as part of a nation wide team; good understanding of HIV/AIDS; ability to speak and/or write French would be a strong asset.
