review of presentation by Janet Parsons

Janet Parsons and Jim Lavery were the speakers at our February meeting. It was a very powerful presentation, and I feel that my whole framework for what is both knowledge transfer and qualitative methodology has been blown wide open.  They gave a 35 minute film presentation on a *wicked problem*, and the time just flew by. The topic was not in-and-of-itself inherently interesting to me (the listing of a drug for diabetes), but the presentation of the views of the different stakeholders invested in the issue and an opportunity to hear their different perspectives, had me totally engrossed in the brokered dialogue. Their method is to interview each stakeholder separately; then show each person the others’ interview and ask for comments and reactions. It is such a fascinating and intriguing way to give voice to those who often do not have a voice, to equalize the power differential between opposing sides, and to facilitate the acquisition of new knowledge.
