Job posting: Regional Engagement Liaison

The Ontario Centres for Learning, Research and Innovation in Long-Term Care (Ontario CLRI) — with locations in Ottawa, Toronto, and Waterloo — partners with the long-term care (LTC) sector to enhance the health and well-being of those who live and work in LTC homes. We provide programs and resources to train and engage the current and future workforce. The Ontario CLRI is funded by the Government of Ontario and hosted at Baycrest Health Sciences (Toronto), Bruyère (Ottawa) and the Research Institute for Aging (Waterloo).

The Ontario CLRI is hiring multiple positions at all three locations to support a new, province-wide preceptor training program, PREP-LTC.

Term: Temporary full-time contract until March 31, 2024

Primary Purpose

The Regional Engagement Liaison will be responsible for planning and implementing the engagement strategies of the Ontario CLRI’s Preceptor Resource and Education Program for Long-Term Care (PREP-LTC) initiative within an assigned provincial region. This position will be part of an Ontario-wide team of Regional Engagement Liaisons. The position requires a self-motivated individual who is able to promote the PREP initiative and CLRI program with LTC homes and education institutions to support the successful implementation of nursing and PSW student placements and preceptorships within LTC homes. The Regional Engagement Liaison will build relationships with LTC homes, colleges, universities, and schools by providing presentations, information, resources, coaching, and facilitation. The Regional Engagement Liaison will work closely with these partners to identify strategies and opportunities for engaging and placing students in LTC homes and for supporting training preceptors to mentor the students.

Key Accountabilities

  1. Project Implementation: Facilitate the implementation of student placements and preceptorships in LTC homes, by assessing needs, providing education and resources and change management supports, and coaching. Give leadership to the day-to-day implementation and completion of PREP activities within the assigned region in accordance with the Program’s strategic goals, work plans, and contracts.
  2. Partner Engagement: Foster strong working relationships with LTC homes and education partners. Connect regularly with LTC homes and education partners within the assigned region to facilitate existing and new student placements in LTC. Engage LTC homes to understand barriers and facilitators related to student placements. Engage colleges, universities, and schools offering PSW and nursing programs to build and strengthen partnerships with LTC homes to increase recruitment of students into LTC home clinical education placements.
  3. Teamwork and Consultation: Work as a collaborative team member to support the PREP initiative. Pro-actively and regularly communicate with the project team regarding the day-today project operations, including obstacles and challenges as they arise, and contribute to project goals and solution finding. Actively participate in project and program team meetings, through the sharing of experiences and the contribution of ideas and problem solving.
  4. Information Gathering and Data Collection: Document and maintain project files and partner communication and records to maximize information sharing and to facilitate team communication within the PREP team and within the Ontario CLRI program. Collect feedback and evaluation data to improve the quality of implementation to support adoption of PREP activities.
  5. Communication: Strong written communication skills to interact with project teams and partners. Strong verbal communication skills to facilitate meetings and presentations, including regional communities of practice. Must be able to maintain confidentiality.
  6. Other: Take on additional tasks, activities and special projects, as they arise. Position Requirements Education: University degree in nursing, healthcare administration or other healthcare areas, or a related field. Training/Certification in implementation strategies, knowledge mobilization, change management, coaching, facilitation, marketing, human resources and communication are assets.

Skills and Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years experience leading and supporting project planning and implementation.
  • Experience implementing change management strategies and coaching in healthcare and/or education settings.
  • Ability to adapt and co-design responsive solutions in a changing context.
  • Ability to collaborate with and bridge partnerships between LTC homes, clinicians, educators, academics.
  • Experience using various systems/technologies (CRMs, customized databases, and other platforms) to optimize project implementation.
  • Ability to nurture and drive a collaborative team environment.
  • Exceptional communication skills, including oral presentations tailored to different audiences.
  • Managing multi-variant tasks and competing priorities in an organized and efficient manner.
  • Ability to problem solve and drive, plan and manage change.
  • Ability to lead, facilitate and participate in committees and/or project working groups.
  • Self-starter with a proactive attitude who can anticipate needs.
  • Experience and fluency using Microsoft and Google Workspace products.
  • Fluent in English. Fluency in French is an asset but not required for positions hosted by Baycrest and RIA. Fluency in French and English is required for positions hosted at Bruyère in Ottawa.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and be available for occasional travel.
  • Eligible to obtain a police background/criminal record check.
  • Interest and passion for enhancing quality of life and care for older adults and team members working in senior living.

Scope of Work

  • Interpersonal Skills: Communicates effectively with internal team members and external partners; professionally represents the RIA in all communications and at events.
  • Level of Responsibility: Responsible for ensuring the effective and efficient implementation of the project in alignment with the contract.
  • Decision-Making Authority: Accountable to make operational decisions for the day-today operations of the project with support from a director for strategic decisions.
  • Physical and Sensory Demands: Minimal demands, typical of a position operating within an office environment; periods of extensive sitting at a desk and in meetings and concentrated use of visual senses; substantial repetitive keyboard/mouse movement; high sensory demands because of required concentration and attentiveness to detail and regular distractions and interruptions.
  • Working Environment: Much of the time is spent sitting in a comfortable position with frequent opportunities to move about. The work is varied and assignments may change frequently. Work will involve regular interaction with team members and external partners and collaborators. There are deadline pressures, while at the same time there is a demand for thoroughness and accuracy. The office is located in a comfortable indoor area and options for hybrid and remote work are available for this position. We are seeking individuals located across Ontario to ensure representation across the province and facilitate regional level support. Regular travel to conduct site visits is required.
