Clinical and Systems Implementation Associate

The Ontario Neurotrauma Foundation (ONF) is seeking a full-time Clinical and System Implementation Associate for its Acquired Brain Injury (ABI) Program.  ONF is a not-for-profit organization that supports research and its mobilization to practice in the field of neurotrauma.

 Role description:

The Acquired Brain Injury (ABI) Program at the Ontario Neurotrauma Foundation (ONF) supports the dissemination and implementation of ABI Clinical Practice Guidelines and Standards. Effective implementation processes at clinical and systems levels will be used in working with networks of healthcare providers throughout the Province. This includes the development and strengthening of multiple partnerships and an implementation and quality focus towards demonstrating impact. To support this work, a new position has been developed for a Clinical and System Implementation Associate.

This will be a position working at many levels of the system to facilitate the adoption of best practice guidelines and standards for ABI, liaising both at a provincial system level and at regional/local levels.  Experience and knowledge of the clinical delivery and organization of health services for persons with acquired brain injury is an essential component to ensuring success of this position as the incumbent will work with providers at many levels.

The role will be facilitative and one that will positively influence the system, facilitating networks working together. As such the incumbent should have considerable systems knowledge; a sound understanding of the clinical context; strong ability to network, co-create and promote shared leadership amongst the active participants in the system; and bring experience that will support a sense of credibility from the various stakeholders.  The goal of this position is facilitation of effective implementation of evidence-informed guidelines and quality improvement at a system level through standards of practice and care.

Structurally the position will be guided by the ONF strategy developed by the Senior Program Director, ABI and the ABI Committee, and will account to the Senior Program Director, ABI. The primary focus will be to operationalize the ABI plan and facilitate the implementation of strategic initiatives and projects.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Contributing to the development of the implementation plan, and informing the plan with information directly from local and regional stakeholders
  • Identifying priorities and opportunities in the field that align with the implementation plan
  • Developing a workplan so that priorities and opportunities are mobilized
  • Helping to build relationships with system and clinical partners, networking groups of stakeholders, and identifying and engaging local champions
  • Consultations, consensus building and development activities with stakeholders and networks as needed to facilitate implementation efforts
  • Directing support at the field level for partners and stakeholders in order to put implementation plans in place
  • Identifying and anticipating risks to the process of implementation and working collaboratively to pinpoint possible solutions
  • Tracking system issues and outcomes, with cross-sector representatives

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in a health discipline with a minimum three (3) years of clinical experience in settings related to brain injury.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Ontario’s health care system organization and experience in system change leadership.
  • Demonstrated success working within interprofessional teams of clinicians AND in partnership with numerous stakeholders such as decision-makers, system planners and organizational leaders.
  • Excellent relationship-building and networking skills, and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated experience working within Implementation Science models and Quality Improvement initiatives.
  • Ability to effectively communicate various kinds of data, research and literature and explain to non-academic audiences.
  • Ability to multi-task, produce and coordinate projects to tight deadlines, and to work towards strategic solutions when problems arise.
  • Adaptable, dynamic, diplomatic, and facilitative team player accustomed to working within a fast-paced environment.
  • The candidate will possess the ability for self-direction and working independently, as well as collaboration and teamwork.
  • Strong communication (oral/written), presentation and organizational skills.
  • Written and spoken French is an asset.

This position will be based in the Toronto office at Yonge St. and Eglinton Ave E., however, an important element in operationalizing the plan is to develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders and regional and local leaders. This will require face to face meetings and thus regular travel around the province. A driver’s license and access to a vehicle is preferred.

The position will begin on July 18th.  The successful candidate will be in a contract position until March 31, 2017 with the anticipation that the role will be permanent with renewed funding.
