The Research Associate will manage the planning and implementation of a province-wide knowledge translation initiative , Too Fit To Fall or Fracture, in partnership with the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care (MOHLTC) and Osteoporosis Canada. The individual will be hired on a two-year contract. The initiative involves knowledge exchange with health care providers and patients across the province. Based on these interactions, the Research Associate will develop knowledge translation tools and resources in partnership with Osteoporosis Canada.
NATURE AND SCOPE:
Waterloo’s Department of Kinesiology includes 23 faculty members (professors), 18 adjunct faculty, more than 20 staff (including teaching and research staff, technicians, computer and administrative support staff), approximately 1 000 undergraduate students, and approximately 90 graduate students (Master’s and PhD). Part of the Faculty of Applied Health Sciences, the Department of Kinesiology is housed in B.C. Matthews Hall and the Lyle S. Hallman Institute for Health Promotion. The Schlegel-UW Research Institute for Aging is partnered with the University of Waterloo, with the mission of enhancing the quality of life and care of older adults through partnerships in research, education and practice. The knowledge translation initiative will involve close partnership with Osteoporosis Canada, and engagement of stakeholders in the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care and every Local Health Integration Network (LHIN) in Ontario. The position could be considered as a postdoctoral fellowship for someone interested in knowledge translation.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
- Master’s or PhD in health research or related degree
- Proficient in qualitative research, with capabilities in quantitative research and mixed methods.
- Proficient with Microsoft office (including Outlook, Word, Excel, Power Point). Experience with SPSS or SAS quantitative software will be considered an asset.
- Applicants should have previous experience leading large-scale projects.
- Evidence of strong communication skills and professional interpersonal skills is required. The Research Associate will be able to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
- Skills in project management, knowledge translation and academic writing will be an asset.
- Some travel will be required within Ontario.
Level of Responsibility:
The individual will work both independently and part of a larger research team that will include faculty at UW, McMaster University and University Health Network, co-op and independent study undergraduate students, graduate and post-graduate students and other research associates/assistants. The Research Associate may be asked to assist with other ongoing projects.
Working Environment:
The Research Associate will work in an academic research environment, with opportunities to engage with knowledge users in several communities across Ontario. There will be opportunities to attend educational seminars and project meetings.
