Sun at Work initiative is a multi-organizational initiative with leadership from Ryerson University and the following partner organizations: the Occupational Cancer Research Centre at CCO, Alberta Health Services, Save Your Skin Foundation, and Sun Safe Nova Scotia. The pan-Canadian project involves the development and implementation of an effective set of work place sun protection measures that act at the individual, contextual, and policy levels. Under the guidance of the PI and partner organizations, the Project Coordinator and KTE coordinator will develop the intervention material and three project officers will implement the interventions in collaboration with participating work sites.
Responsibilities
As the Project Coordinator for the Sun At Work research project, the incumbent with work under the direction of the Principle Investigator (PI) to monitor the project’s budget, develop and implement short and medium-term research plans for a project team of 5 staff (including the project coordinator), and manage and participate in sun protective interventions. Working closely with the KTE coordinator and three project officers, this manager-level position will be responsible for the overall development, deployment, monitoring, and evaluation of the Sun at Work project, including partner identification, project implementation, and the organization of working groups and team meetings.
Under the direction and guidance of the project PI, the Coordinator will complete the following duties:
- Support a key prevention-related initiative – the Sun at Work project – as the organizational and administrative lead
- Be responsible for working with and reporting to a variety of industry, academic, and para-government stakeholders
- Complete and submit ethics applications for the project as necessary
- Identify and engage with potential project partners, primarily industry partners
- Work closely with private sector partners to ensure active participation in the project
- Conduct baselines assessment of participating workplaces, including focus groups and survey administration
- In partnership with the KTE coordinator, develop tailored sun behavior interventions for workplaces based on site evaluation
- Implement strategies to effectively coordinate project planning, design, implementation, documentation, monitoring and evaluation for the Sun at Work team
- Work collaboratively with a pan-national team and ensure that project staff are effectively implementing work plans
- Design and maintain project databases
- Oversee project evaluation, data collection, and quality of data
- Write reports to funders and final project report for academic, non-profit, and industry groups
- In partnership with project team, develop and implement KTE strategy to scale-up the Sun at Work program for distribution to workplaces throughout Canada
- Organize team and expert stakeholder workshops and symposium, and carry out other administrative duties as they relate to the research project.
- Draft and edit a variety of communications, presentations, process/work flows and other project/team support material. To facilitate the development of these materials,
- Perform cross-functional and/or other duties consistent with the job classification, as assigned or requested.
Qualifications
EDUCATION
Completion of an advanced degree (Masters or PhD) in occupational/health sciences with a background in behavioral change/intervention preferred.
EXPERIENCE
Minimum 2 years of experience in research project design and management including reporting and grant administration. Must have experience working in a research environment, proven self-direction, and a background in handling grants and ethics reviews. Experience with survey design, focus group administration, data handling and analysis, and project evaluation are assets. Proven project coordinator skills including skills in negotiation, mediation and facilitation with staff and diverse stakeholders. Ability to act as the “gel” between the stakeholders, researchers, students and professors: able to facilitate group cohesion, good communication (including feedback), motivation and assure inclusion. The Project Coordinator must have exemplary written and verbal communication skills, as well as strong organization and tracking skills to ensure that team requests are appropriately prioritized and project deliverables are fulfilled in a timely manner. This position will involve working with project staff who work remotely from other provinces- as such, applicant should be familiar with online communication tools such as Skype and SharePoint/OneNote.
