Scope:

Egg Farmers of Canada (EFC) is seeking an enthusiastic and energetic individual who likes working with scientists and enjoys turning research findings into business opportunities. Understanding the value science can bring to business, the candidate will help direct our research program. Bringing to this full‐time position a well‐rounded background in multiple fields, you are outgoing and will nurture these scientists and their students to engage in discovery that will help our business grow, develop a pool of bright young talent and secure the future foundation of our industry.

Duties and responsibilities:

This position reports to the Director of Corporate and Public Affairs. Key responsibilities include:

  • Liaising with research scientists primarily at academic institutions across Canada
  • Encouraging exploration and discovery that accords with the strategic objectives of our business plan
  • Scouting new scientists for our Research Chair program and nurturing relationships
  • Creating a new network amongst our research chairs
  • Leveraging domestic and international partnerships to uncover new information and knowledge of use to Canadian egg farmers
  • Establishing processes, vehicles and products to increase knowledge mobilization of the research EFC funds
  • Providing advice and support of the development of R&D related policies
  • Creating synergies among research scientists and EFC management team
  • Participating as an active member of several research networks
  • Preparing research contracts
  • Developing practical applications of research results in collaboration with Operations Department

You must be able and willing to travel both domestic and internationally

Qualifications and skills:

  • Candidates must have 5 or more years of relevant work experience and an undergraduate degree in Science. Preference will be given to candidates who have a combined degree or multiple degrees that demonstrate education in science and business.
  • Demonstrated excellent communications skills in writing and presenting
  • Facilitation and public speaking skills
  • Business development and relationship building capacity
  • Experience communicating scientific information in accessible language
  • Ability to think strategically about research and investments in knowledge generation
  • Exceptional project management skills with the ability to multi‐task, take initiative and be results‐oriented
  • Excellent software applications skills (e.g. Microsoft Office)
  • Ability to communicate (verbally and in writing) in French would be an asset
