OPGRC seeks Manager, Research, Knowledge Translation and Exchange

The Ontario Problem Gambling Research Centre (OPGRC) is recognized for its leadership as an objective, independent problem gambling research centre in Canada and around the world. Our leadership has guided major research initiatives and has supported evidence-informed decision-making in policy and practice. In doing so, OPGRC has formed highly effective provincial, inter-provincial and international partnerships for collaborating and exchanging knowledge across government, the research community, and problem gambling treatment and prevention providers.

MANAGER, RESEARCH, KNOWLEDGE TRANSLATION AND EXCHANGE

Reporting to the CEO, you will lead the identification of knowledge exchange opportunities and develop recommendations for knowledge translation and exchange (KTE) and research direction which will minimize knowledge gaps in the prevention of gambling and ensure that the Centre is perceived as the go-to site for distilled problem gambling knowledge exchange and research knowledge. Some of your responsibilities will include:

  • providing technical guidance and oversight to several staff reporting to the position on directed research knowledge questions and/or research issues ensuring products and tools are of superior quality and consistency;
  • co-ordinating knowledge translation strategies with partners (e.g. Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH), Responsible Gambling Council, Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario, etc.). This includes building, managing and providing on-going updates of the Conceptual Framework of Harmful Gambling and the Problem Gambling Research Framework and developing products and providing expert advice (e.g. presentations, research summaries, leading webinars, etc.).
  • implementing directed KTE and research with agreement of MOHLTC and/or other partners by leading conceptualization, design, review including managing external ethics and the review process;
  • writing grant proposals and co-ordinating implementation with external researchers and consultants and monitoring and making necessary adjustments for quality assurance and
  • providing support and leadership to the Research Review Committee surrounding the research review, data access and knowledge translation program processes.

Qualifications: Graduate degree (e.g. Master’s Degree or PHD degree in relevant field — Psychology, Sociology, Epidemiology, Social Work, Law, Adult Education, Knowledge Exchange, etc.). Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of research methodology and practices and knowledge exchange. Demonstrated team leadership experience in research and/or knowledge exchange roles. Excellent analytical skills, written and oral / presentation communication skills. Strong project management experience. Solid relationship building and management skills and knowledge of government relations. Knowledge of and experience in facilitation techniques and stakeholder consultation. Demonstrated knowledge and/or experience in mental health and addictions, problem gambling and/or other related fields preferred. Proficiency in French would be an asset.
