Women’s Economic Empowerment and Growth in Low-Income Countries

The Supporting Inclusive Growth (SIG) Program supports rigorous and policy-oriented research that generates new insights and options for promoting policies that facilitate inclusive growth. SIG will house a new initiative on Women’s Economic Empowerment and Growth in Low-Income Countries (WEEG).This initiative is jointly supported by the UK’s Department for International Development (DFID), The William and Flora Hewlett Foundation, and IDRC with an approximate value of CA $15 million over 5 years. It aims to enhance knowledge and inform policies on barriers to women’s economic empowerment, the role of the care economy, and on the links and between women’s economic empowerment and economic growth.

Under the direction and guidance of the Senior Program Specialist (SPS), as the Program Officer for Knowledge Translation, you will assist in the development of the WEEG Research Uptake Strategy and will be directly responsible for its implementation. You will develop strategies to show the relevance of research findings for key audiences, with emphasis on how to translate knowledge to practice for policy makers and practitioners. You will also administer and coordinate the day-to-day program operations, including the competitive call process, communication, and ensuring high-quality reporting within IDRC and for partner agencies.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in a relevant social science discipline such as international development/affairs, economics, gender studies or public administration
  • At least three years of relevant knowledge translation, communications and research experience, which includes: developing and implementing communication strategies to demonstrate research relevance and to translate this knowledge into policy practice; analyzing, interpreting and synthesizing quantitative/qualitative research data; communicating research through presentations, reports, and documents for expert and non-expert audiences; designing and delivering activities to strengthen communications and outreach capacities of WEEG research partners; and experience using data analysis.
  • Experience working in developing regions is an asset
  • Bilingual position (English/French) at an intermediate level
  • Knowledge of current debates and issues in the areas of women’s economic empowerment, care economy, gender equality and/or economic growth in low-income countries
  • Sound understanding of strategies for effectively communicating research results and linking research to research users
  • Excellent interpersonal and verbal/written communication skills
  • Strong planning, organization, problem-solving, coordination and negotiation skills
  • Sound judgment and ability to take own initiative
  • Ability to establish, manage, guide and monitor relationships with diverse stakeholders
  • Ability to work as a member of a virtual team and under pressure
  • Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team of people from diverse cultures, expertise and experiences
  • Awareness of and sensitivity to individual, gender and cultural differences
