Job Title:
Research Analyst, The Health of Canada’s Children:  A CICH Profile

Role

Reporting to the Research Director and Profile Manager of the Canadian Institute of Child Health, the role of the Research/Survey Analyst is to perform quantitative and qualitative analysis in support of the research agenda of The Health of Canada’s Children: A CICH Profile. This full time position will involve basic statistical analysis, data collection and management, literature review, preparation of brief reports/summaries, and other related tasks.

Responsibilities

The Research Analyst will:

  • Under the supervision of the Research Director, be responsible for data analysis on large Statistics Canada datasets such as the Census; National Longitudinal Survey of Children and Youth; Canadian Community Health Survey and others.
  • Conduct literature reviews and analysis on selected topics related to children’s health.
  • Build an electronic repository of references/research materials.
  • Produce tables and graphs, and write reports on the above research.
  • Manage the web-based portal including the uploading all content.
  • Coordinate social media aspects of the Profile including Facebook and Twitter.
  • Attend meetings, and participate as a team member on other requests.

Skills

  • The Research Analyst must be a highly organized, focused and motivated person who works well independently.
  • This position requires someone with a strong understanding of survey design and analysis with strong skills in the understanding and use of SPSS, MS Office (Excel, PowerPoint and Word) and referencing software (Reference Manager and Endnote).
  • The position requires someone with strong written and communication skills who is able to manage multiple work assignments simultaneously.  Bilingualism is an asset.
  • Ability to manage and seek out information to post on the website and through social media.
  • Ability to manage the backend administrative portal of the web-portal for uploading information.
  • The Research Analyst should have a good understanding of children’s health.

Education/Professional Designation/Experience

The Research Analyst should have the following:

  • Preferably a Master’s degree in psychology, statistics, sociology, public or health administration or related degree with concentration in research methodology,  statistics and policy analysis.
  • Working knowledge of SPSS, Reference Manager and MS Office (Excel, PowerPoint and Word).
  • Working knowledge of Expression Engine (the Profile’s back-end web portal system).
  • Working knowledge of social media platforms including Facebook, Twitter and YouTube.
  • One-two years of work/research experience in this area.
  • Be available to work full-time.

Time Frame:

  • Fifteen- month contract commencing January 15, 2013 and concluding March 31, 2014 with the potential for renewal on an annual basis dependent upon funding.

Salary and Benefits

$42,000 – $45,000 per annum

Inclusive of benefits and commensurate on experience (insurance program available)
